GM recalls could set record

Problems with brake lights, headlamps, power brakes, windshield wipers

General Motors has already recalled almost as many cars this year as it did in 2004 when it set its annual recall record.

The company yesterday recalled an additional 2.7 million vehicles, to fix problems with brake lights, headlamps, power brakes and windshield wipers.

The auto industry overall is also on track for a single-year record for recalls.
