Reactions to Eastwood's RNC appearance vary widely

A somewhat odd appearance at the Republican National Convention by longtime film star and director Clint Eastwood has sparked reactions ranging from confusion to bemusement, from outrage to applause.

What seems clear from the day-after dissection of the event is that even the organizers who arranged his appearance were somewhat surprised by the form it took.

Mitt and Anne Romney have called his appearance "unique," and others -- even Republicans -- have been less kind.

People who attended say he had no teleprompter, and was ad-libbing his remarks.

He addressed an empty chair, as if President Barack Obama was sitting in it, and at times seemed to grasp for what he wanted to say.

Some found the result "disjointed," "confusing," "rambling."

Others felt that he had spoken from the heart, and made some valid points.
