Rape, battery charges dropped against Paul Tay

TULSA, Okla. — UPDATE, 8/10/2022: The Tulsa County District Attorney received new information on the case. Charges were dismissed as a result and further investigation is pending. Charges could be filed again.

All charges have been dropped against Paul Tay, one year after his arrest in Tulsa.

Court documents released after Tay’s 2021 arrest stated that Tay brought a woman from Oklahoma City to Tulsa and kept her captive. The victim was able to escape and call for help.

Tay was charged with first-degree rape with instrumentation, kidnapping, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. According to the Oklahoma State Courts Network, the kidnapping charge was dropped in Dec. 2021 and the following charges were dropped on Monday.

It’s not clear why the charges were dropped by the state.

Tay is a former Oklahoma gubernatorial candidate.
