Plane hit by massive bee swarm, forced to land

Passengers thought plane was on fire

The Allegiant air flight was taking off from the Las Vegas airport when it plowed through the giant swarm.

Thousands of the bees completely covered the plane’s windshield while even more were sucked into the engines.

Passenger Misty Newman told WDIO, "it smelled like the whole cabin was on fire."

“When we landed the fire department and the cops were waiting, and they took off along the runway after us,” Newman continued.

Pilots quickly turned the aircraft around and landed back at McCarron Airport.

During the entire event, those onboard were not told what happened.

After the flight landed safely passengers were switched to another airplane before they discovered their day had been interrupted.

After a short stay on the ground, the flight continued to Duluth, Minnesota 100% bee free.
