Petition to legalize medical marijuana kicks off today

A group on the hunt for a statewide vote on whether to allow medicinal marijuana in Oklahoma is officially launching a petition with a rally at the state Capitol.

The Tulsa-based group ‘Oklahomans for Health’ needs more than 155,000 signatures from registered voters to get the issue on the November ballot.

If approved, marijuana would be classified as an herbal drug regulated by the Oklahoma State Department of Health. Doctors would be able to prescribe it for medical conditions as they see fit.

Tulsans tell KRMG they are not in favor of legalized marijuana in any fashion. They say it will just be abused like other things.

Democratic state Sen. Connie Johnson is just one advocate expected to speak at the rally. Senator Johnson is a longtime supporter of the medicinal marijuana push.

“You’re already hearing in the other states that have legalized that they’re having so many car wrecks because of it.” A KRMG listener said.
