Pedestrian struck by deputy, pronounced dead at the scene

A Logan County deputy hit and killed a pedestrian searching for lost items on the road early Saturday morning.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol say the deputy was responding to reports of a car facing the wrong way.  The call went out around 12:30 a.m.

The deputy hit Danny Lundy of Nebraska with his vehicle.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

OHP say the victim and his family were returning home when they stopped on I-35 to see if items fell out of their truck bed.  The deputy never saw Lundy walking around his truck because of the vehicle's bright lights.

OHP say the deputy was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries to his face and ribs.

The accident is under investigation by OHP.  Logan County officials will also do an internal investigation according to OHP.
