The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority says the left lane in the eastbound direction of the Turner Turnpike at mile mark 175 is closed.
Crews spotted what was initially believed to be a sinkhole, but they later found it was just a section of the roadway that was beginning to deteriorate.
“Some material had loosened up and kind of compacted in and a little bit of the road kind of sunk down in,” said Jack Damrill with the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority.
Damrill told KRMG the work shouldn’t take long and the lanes should reopen sometime Thursday.
The OTA decided to fix the problem right away and narrowed the turnpike.
