TULSA, Okla. — Esports is a new phenomenon but it’s quickly gaining popularity.

In December, Rogers State University won their first national Esports title. Even city leaders in Broken Arrow are pushing for an Esports arena.

Now, Oral Roberts University is ready to play.

The campus is getting an E-rena. It’s one of several new projects aimed at expanding the campus. The new center will showcase ORU students in the gaming environment.

Taylor Smithson is the Esports Coordinator at ORU. He spoke about the growth of the sport on campus.

“We’re excited to continue to grow expand in games and expand the student experience in esports” said Smithson.

Gamers and students say this E-rena is an important addition to ORU’s student life. It’s also a great way to attract new students to the University.

“It is a wonderful opportunity for ORU to have young people get excited to come to ORU, to experience and have a place to engage and support,” said Jordan, an ORU student.
