Okmulgee County has joined a growing list of counties enforcing a burn ban in Oklahoma.
County Commissioners issued the ban Monday after consulting with area fire chiefs.
It is a 30-day ban on all outdoor burning, including campfires and bonfires, and any open burning of trash or green waste.
There is also an exception allowing welding, provided wind speeds are under 20 mph and there's at least one person present to watch for fire, armed with a fire extinguisher or pressurized source of water.
Cooking is permitted if conducted in a "grilling receptacle" on a non-flammable surface at least five feet from any vegetation.
The welding must also been on a non-flammable surface of at least ten feet, and with welding blankets or screens covering any nearby vegetation.
The ban is for 30 days, after which it would expire unless extended.
County Commissioners could also cancel the ban at any time.
Creek County and 13 other Oklahoma Counties have also issued burn bans.
