Oklahoma prisons running out of room

Wed, June 28, 2017 — Department of Corrections believe Oklahoma prisons are in trouble.

Director Joe Allbaugh made the announcement on Tuesday, stating the system suffers from aging, low staffing, skyrocketing medical costs for aging inmates and no budget increases in the face of growing inmate populations.  Allbaugh went on to add the day is approaching when the system will "be incapable of taking more prisoners."

For reference, Oklahoma's prisons are operating at 109 percent of capacity.
