Oklahoma lawmakers escape injury during fatal Amtrak crash

CROZET, Virginia — The White House confirms one fatality and one serious injury after a chartered train hit a garbage truck Wednesday.

The train was carrying Republican lawmakers to a conference in West Virginia.

U.S Senator James Lankford, of Oklahoma, was on the train.

U.S Senator James Inhofe and U.S Representative Jim Bridenstine were not on the train.

Sen. Lankford tells KRMG he wasn’t injured.

Investigators say the crash happened at an intersection that crosses the tracks at the top of a hill where visibility is limited.

There is a train arm at the crossing.

The fatal victim was one of four people in the truck.
