An Oklahoma County district judge has blocked a new state law that would have restricted access to the 'morning after' pill.
The law was scheduled to go into effect Thursday, but District Judge Lisa Davis granted a temporary restraining order Monday.
The federal government has approved unrestricted sale of the retroactive contraceptive medicine, also known as "plan B," but the Oklahoma law would have required women over the age of 17 to show an ID in order to obtain it, and women 17 and under would have had to show a prescription.
The Center for Reproductive Rights sued to stop the law from going into effect, triggering the judge's temporary restraining order.
The state legislature passed the measure last Spring, and Gov. Mary Fallin signed it into law near the end of May.
