If it seems like car insurance is unusually expensive in Oklahoma, it's not your imagination.
According to one survey, it IS.
The website Insure.com surveyed the six biggest insurance companies in the U.S., companies like State Farm, Allstate, and GEICO, and then compared the findings on a state-by-state basis.
Louisiana was the most expensive at $2,699.
They determined that Oklahoma ranked number four on the list of most expensive vehicle insurance, with an average annual premium of $2,074.
Maine had the lowest annual average for premiums at just $934.
State Farm's Public Affairs Specialist Jim Camoriano says the likely reason for the high rates in Oklahoma are uninsured drivers, which drives up the cost for everyone else.
He says an estimated 25-percent of Oklahoma drivers are uninsured.
"Which is unusually high," he said. " I think the national average might be somewhere around 14-percent."
