Oklahoma City resident Lynn Bennett, who lost her 82-year-old husband Perry Lee Bennett to the West Nile virus on August 10th, went before the Oklahoma City Council this week, pleading with them to do more to control the mosquito population.
"And if it was your loved one you saw with tubes coming out of them every which way and direction, and a machine keeping him breathing because he couldn't breathe anymore, and his brain was dying and his heart was dying, that you had to hold their hand as they took their last breath, I think you'd be doing something about the mosquito population," Bennett said.

For example, she points out that the council spent a good deal of time during their meeting talking about bicycle trails and she asked them why they couldn't be more passionate about an issue that's causing their citizens to die and get sick.
Bennett says she's been told by one local official that spraying for mosquitos is ineffective because it's too windy and it only kills adults.
But she says they should spray at night when it's less windy and that they should be aggressive in treating the problem.
"They didn't like that much I don't think," Bennett said.
