OHP cracks down on New Years traffic violators

Nine arrested on DUI complaints

Troopers with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol launched their special holiday enforcement operation in Tulsa County at 7:00 PM on New Year's Eve through 3:00 AM New Year's Day.

And for the second consecutive year, there were no collisions reported in the Tulsa Metro by OHP during the 8 hour crackdown.

OHP issued 48 speeding citations, 14 driving under suspension citations and 139 traffic offense warnings.

"This is the outcome we were hoping for this year.  Many people were made safe by outstanding efforts of men & women working for the patrol & partners in law enforcement.  This was a combined operation & everyone worked hard to ensure that at the end of the night, citizens went home safely to be with family & loved ones," said OHP spokesman Lt. George Brown.

Nine people spent the night in jail for DUI, and four were jailed for drug offenses.
