Odd looking contraption puzzles people in downtown Tulsa

A couple of unusual contraptions are set up at two corners in downtown Tulsa.

It’s hard to tell what it is until you hear the facts.

The stacked barrels, fence, orange plastic mesh and steam are at the corner of 5th and main.

Strizek says the steam is from a temporary fix on a problem with an underground pipe system.

KRMG called Paul Strizek with Tulsa Public Works to see if he could enlighten everyone.

The steam is used to heat and cool downtown buildings.

City crews made up the contraption so hot steam won't hurt people on the sidewalks.

Strizek says you might see the contraptions up for a while.

The steam has causes quite a bit of damage to the roads.

The heating and cooling company will have to pay for the repairs.
