New-age way to get around town comes to Tulsa

Grab your smartphone and get a ride

If you need a ride across town but don’t want to take a bus or hail a cab, Uber-X is a new option in town.

It’s pretty simple, really. You sign up through the app on your smartphone, pay with your credit card and a car shows up.

The drivers who pick you up are just regular people making extra money on the side. They’re driving their own vehicles, but they are guaranteed not to break down. Uber is very selective with who it lets offer rides.

Uber-X just came to Tulsa this week with some help from the Tulsa Young Professionals. TYPros helped bring the service here through their “Bring it to Tulsa” campaign.

The GPS in your smartphone tells the driver where you are, so all you have to do is make the request and somebody is on the way.
