Need food stamps? Be prepared to prove it

Oklahoma Congressman Frank Lucas wants people on food stamps to prove they need them.

Lucas is proposing cutting $20 billion in spending over 10 years for the nation's food stamps program in the latest farm bill.

The Congressman tells KRMG that anyone who currently meets the requirements will go hungry. Lucas says,  "No one who needs the help who qualifies will be shorted. They just have to prove they need the help first."

To achieve the savings, Lucas proposes eliminating categorical eligibility, a state option that allows residents who qualify for other assistance programs to still get full SNAP benefits.
