Natural gas pipeline explodes in Creek County

The flames shot up several feet into the air.

(Milfay, Okla.) - The Creek County Sheriff's Office says a natural gas pipeline exploded and burned near Milfay Monday.

Milfay is about six miles northeast of Stroud, south of the Turner Turnpike.

Sergeant Vaughan says a 26-inch transmission line caught fire about 11:30 in the morning.

SergeantVaughan says gas flow was quickly turned off by ONEOK crews and the fire was out within an hour.

The pipeline is operated by Tulsa-based ONEOK.

The pipeline is in the middle of a field without structures nearby.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation.

ONEOK crews are waiting for the pipeline to cool before investigating the explosion's cause and starting repairs.

No onw was hurt.
