Multiple area Wal-Marts receive bomb threats

Walmart evacuated on Lewis

Two area Wal-marts received bomb threats Thursday morning.

Tulsa police tells KRMG the Wal-mart at 81st and Lewis received a call just after 9 a.m. saying a bomb was inside the store.  Police and Tulsa fire crews were called out to the scene to investigate and help with the evacuation.

"All the customers were told to get away from the store," KRMG listener Terri Amstatz said.  "The employees were told to go to the hotel across the street."

Sand Springs Police Chief Mike Carter said the caller mentioned he overheard a threat.  This time, Wal-mart didn't evacuate their employees and customers.

Just before 9:30 a.m., a Wal-mart in Sand Springs received the same call.

"It's at the store's discretion whether or not to evacuate," Carter said.

In both cases, a bomb was never found.  The Tulsa store has since let employees back into the building.

Both TPD and SSPD are investigating who made the phone calls and why.
