Mother charged with smothering 2-week-old

Updating a story about a Fort Gibson woman accused of killing her 2-week-old daughter on June 17th.

Court records show 21-year-old Christina Hall has been charged with second-degree murder.

Hall confessed to falling asleep next to her girl, and it's believed the baby was smothered.

Christina Marie Hall, 21, was arrested on a manslaughter complaint, according to Wagoner County Sheriff's Office Maj. Gary Handley.

Original:  Wagoner County deputies have arrested and booked a woman in connection to the death of her 2-week-old daughter.

He says deputies responded to her home near Ft. Gibson Lake on June 17th about 11:00 a.m.  and found the baby unresponsive.

The infant was taken to a hospital in Muskogee but could not be revived.

"The baby had suffocated, and it was a result of the mother, at this point it appears, sleeping on the child," Handley told KRMG.

He said there's a possibility that she could face a more serious charge when the investigation's complete.

"We're still following up leads and looking at evidence and obviously waiting for Medical Examiner's reports, but it's very possible that things could change."

Hall has another child, who has been in her mother's custody.

She remains jailed; her bail is set at $150,000.
