A new poll shows a large majority of Americans don't think the Washington Redskins should have to change the team name, but if it happens, there's a leading candidate for a new one.
The poll was conducted by the Huffington Post, partnering with YouGov.
It found that 21 percent of Americans think the Redskins should change their name, while 62 percent think they shouldn't.
Last week, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office canceled the Redskins' trademark registration, saying the name is "disparaging to Native Americans."
Only 8 percent of Republicans favored the name change, with 20 percent of independents and 33 percent of Democrats agreeing.
That decision will end up in court.
When it came to choosing a new name, the poll offered seven possible choices.
The winner, going away, was the "Washington Warriors," with 55 percent of respondents favoring that name.
About 15 percent liked "Renegades," 8 percent favored "Monuments" and 4 percent picked "Red Tails."
A Washington newspaper is pushing the name "Washington Pigskins," but that name only got picked by 6 percent of the poll respondents.
