Mismanagement of taxpayer dollars reported at Okla. Department of Corrections

Want more money? Get a handle on your sloppy accounting.

That's the message the Governor's office has for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.

Oklahoma Secretary of Finance and Revenue Preston Doerflinger tells KRMG that the DOC has twice as much in their accounts than the DOC estimated in late December 2012. Doerflinger says, "The problem is, we need very accurate numbers when we are trying to decide how best to deploy taxpayer resources to meet the needs of the state."

Doerflinger says the DOC needs to get their sloppy accounting under control before asking for any funding increases. Doerflinger says, "I'm not quite sure what was going on at their end but what it does is it causes questions for us (the Governor's office)."
