Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin today announced a new $20.3 million federal grant to the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.
The OUHSC will be partnering with the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation and other institutions across the state.
The grant targets medically-underserved populations, especially in rural areas of Oklahoma.
The five-year grant from the National Institutes of Health supports an Institutional Development Award.
“This grant will help to support potentially life-saving research at Oklahoma's world class medical centers,” said Gov. Mary Fallin. “It will also help to provide additional resources for rural areas that have typically been underserved. I'm excited by this great development for the state and our citizens.”
The IDeA program builds research capacities in states with historically low levels of NIH funding by supporting basic, clinical and translational research, faculty development, and program infrastructure.
The grant provides $4.3 million in its first year and another $4 million per year for four subsequent years.
