Middle school girl suspended for bringing butter knife to school

School says policy isn’t flexible

Morgan LaPlaume brought the butter knife to school to use at lunch time. Morgan said 'I was using it to cut my pear, I wasn't harming any other student."

But the rule at the Massachusetts middle school says no knives, of any kind and so Morgan was suspended.

Morgan told Fox 25 news that she told the vice principal what the knife was for and he said, 'I know, but it's the policy."

But Morgan’s mom still thinks a little common sense might have been nice. "It's a butter knife. She has braces. She was cutting her pear," she moaned.

The school principal defended his man saying he was following guidelines set forth in the student handbook, a book every parent signs off on.

"There was no intent at all there."
