Markwayne Mullin announces reelection bid

Primary election June 24th

First elected in 2012, Mullin has made no secret of his dislike for President Obama’s Affordable Care Act and what he terms “the special interests bureaucrats who want to over-regulate our lives and rob us of our freedom.”

"I will never stand by and allow career politicians to win the fight. I am a citizen legislator and I will stand every day against the career politicians,” he continued.

In March, the committee's ranking member, California Democrat Linda Sanchez said the committee would not conduct a formal investigation but confirmed the case will be reviewed internally.

Raised in Westville, Oklahoma, Mullin is the youngest of seven children. He and his wife Christie have five children of their own.

Mullin will have to overcome an investigation by the House Ethics Committee based around his plumbing businesses. Lawmakers are not allowed to be “significantly involved in outside business interests.” But Mullin has remained active in the running of his firms including starring in radio and television commercials promoting them.

The Congressmen has argued that being a true “citizen legislator,” means he should be able to work while in congress so as not to become what he describes as a career politician.

“We are very focused on serving the people we are privileged to represent,” Mullin summed up. “And we plan to continue to find new opportunities to keep citizens engaged in their government.”
