Man gets life in prison for shooting Coweta gas station clerk

COWETA, Okla. — A man who robbed a Coweta gas station and shot a store clerk in 2021 was sentenced on Tuesday.

District Attorney Jack Thorp said in a press release, a judge sentenced 28-year-old Ellic Hayden to life in prison.

Coweta police said Hayden shot a Kum & Go clerk multiple times while he robbed the gas station in November 2021. The clerk survived his injuries.

“DNA evidence is wonderful when you get it and in this case, it really drove the case home.”

“The clerk was able to grab the mask off his face, and the mask had the defendant’s DNA and we were able to match that to him,” Thorp said.

The victim in this case testified in court on Monday as well.

Hayden received life in prison for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, 25 years in prison for robbery with a dangerous weapon, as well as three years for entering the premises while masked.

Hayden entered a blind plea in Wagoner County District Court on Feb. 3.
