Man arrested in plot to blow up Wichita, Kansas airport

The man reportedly wanted to support al-Qaeda by attacking the airport

Federal authorities announced the arrest Friday of a man who plotted to detonate a car bomb at a Wichita, Kansas airport.

U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said Terry Lee Loewen, 58, planned to drive a car he thought was full of explosives into a terminal at Mid-Continent regional airport.

He was reportedly trying to strike a blow to support al-Qaeda, according to law enforcement.

He came to the attention of investigators about six months ago after making remarks about "violent Jihad" against the U.S.

Loewen is an avionics technician who lives near the airport.

They do not believe anyone else was involved in the attempted terrorism.
