KRMG has learned lawmakers in our state are exploring whether schools should start the year later to cut down on utility costs.
According to Oklahomans for School Calendar Reform, school districts spend money on cooling schools that could be appropriated to classrooms. A supporter with the group says school districts pay a combined $80 million a year on electricity.
Schools in our state generally begin the new year in late July or August.
