Ironman triathlon expected to bring millions of dollars to Tulsa

TULSA — A new event coming to Tulsa is expected to have a $13 million economic impact on the city, according to regional Tourism leaders.

City officials announced Wednesday that the IRONMAN triathlon signed a three-year contract.

The first competition will be held in Tulsa in May, 2020.

Tulsa beat out Des Moines, Iowa, Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Memphis, Tennessee.

The race includes swimming, bicycling and running

“We are encouraged by the possible venues that Tulsa and the surrounding areas offer, including the beautiful Keystone Harbor in Mannford, Oklahoma and Guthrie Green in downtown as we create an enjoyable experience for athletes and support crews,” said Chief Operating Officer for The IRONMAN Group Shane Facteau.
