Inspections begin today on Tulsa bridges

Lanes will be closed for the inspections

Engineers will be checking the underside of the bridges for any structural issues.

The bridges over the Arkansas River are checked frequently.

FOX 23’s Janai Norman says the undersides of the bridges are checked every two years, and the surfaces are checked on the alternating years.

The right lane of eastbound 71st will be closed until 7 p.m. for the inspections making the already tight construction zone even tighter.

Crews are starting on the 71st Street bridge over the river today, and will work their way up the river throughout the week.

Tomorrow they'll be checking the 21st Street bridge and will be on the 11th Street bridge Wednesday.

Some good news, after the last round of inspections, most of Tulsa’s bridges received a rating of 80 out of 100.

There are over 250 bridges in Tulsa.
