Incredible video: Ice tsunami plows through homes

Incident happened last week

The ice is coming out of Mille Lacs Lake in Minnesota and creeping right through the houses on the shore of the lake.

Meteorologists explain it this way.

Wind blows large pieces of ice toward shore and as they go, smaller pieces of ice are pushed onto shore.

He went on "winds, but more so ocean currents, allow icebergs to drift. Same premise: A chunk of ice was pushed by a strong, sustained wind. The momentum of the ice sheet overcame the friction of the land."

"It basically has the same mechanism of an iceberg," CNN meteorologist Todd Borek said.

In other words, the ice walks over the ground and through anything in its way.

Reports say several homes and docks were either damaged or destroyed.
