People will be flocking to area lakes to spend the holiday weekend on the water.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol tells KRMG they’ll be out with an increased presence to make sure people stay safe.
OHP reminds people to always have a designated driver. That counts for boaters too.
Children 12-16 years of age are required by law to have a "Boating Safety" class before operating a personal watercraft and/or a motorboat in excess of 10 horse-power.
The law says every vessel is required to carry one U.S. Coast Guard approved wearable life jacket for each person on board. Life jackets must be in good serviceable condition, it needs to fit the person who intends to wear it and be readily accessible. Passengers 13 years of age or younger are required to wear a life jacket on boats 26 feet or less in length when a vessel is underway. Life jackets are like safety belts and if used properly can save lives.
If Lake Keystone is your destination, Pier 51 Marina has some fun planned. Service manager Sean Adair says their restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner Thursday through Monday.
They’ll also have live music there Friday, Saturday and Sunday. If it rains, they may move the music indoors.
