Hot weather triggers a flurry of water main breaks in Tulsa

The two worst breaks involved 12-inch lines on busy roads

Hot weather has contributed to several water main breaks in Tulsa.

The city says it had ten burst in several areas of town. They include:

  • 56th Pl. N & Lewis, 6-inch break in parking, 6-inch main down
  • 9212 E. 37th St.,  8-inch break in parking
  • 3917 N Lansing Ave., 6-inch break at edge of drive, 6-inch main down. 10 residents without water. Will be fixed in approximately 4-5 hours.
  • 41st & Sheridan, 12-inch break in parking. Will be fixed in approximately 6-7 hours.
  • 32nd Pl, 88th E., 6-inch main down, 20 residents without water. Will be fixed in approximately 4-6 hours.
  • 21st & Garnett, 12-inch break in drive. Will be fixed in approximately 6-8 hours.
  • 3112 E. Woodrow St., 2-inch break in parking - hour timeframe for fix?
  • SEC N. Erie & E. Tecumseh, 2-inch break in parking
  • 3316 E. Admiral Pl., 6-inch break at edge of street
  • 781 E. Seminole St., 6-inch break in street

"Strategic upgrades" to the system continue, as the city works to stabilize and improve the system.

Despite the outbreak, Tulsa remains below the five-year average for broken lines in 2014.

The city tells KRMG the original 55 miles of the system was built during the 1920s, and the rest completed more than 30 years ago.
