Hearing set for Tulsa dad accused of child neglect

Locked his 22-month-old child in a dog cage.

TULSA, Okla. —

A Tulsa man charged with child neglect after police found his 22-month-old daughter locked in a metal dog cage is due in district court.

The father is scheduled to appear early Thursday at a hearing where prosecutors are asking a judge to revoke his 2-year suspended sentence on drug charges.

The father was sentenced in August 2012 — about three months before police found the girl locked in the crate and another child wandering around naked outside.

The Associated Press is not naming the father to protect the identity of the toddler.

Court records allege the father admitted to taking a cocktail of powerful narcotics, muscle relaxers and drinking beer on the day the children were found.

He has pleaded not guilty to the felony child neglect charge.
