Gynecologists cleared to treat male patients

Careful big fella

The first thought would probably be “why would a dude need an OBGYN?”

Excellent question and here’s the answer.

Patients and some medical advocates have long said that gynecologists would be more effective screening men for anal cancer or other sexually transmitted HPV issues.

There were some exceptions made in the past but the screening for anal cancer wasn’t allowed until now.

The tests for some of those troubles were originally perfected and used to detect cervical cancer.

The New York Times reports any gyno who treated a male before the new rules was threatened with having their certification taken away.

Dr. Mark H. Einstein is a gynecologic oncologist at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx. He told The Times "cool heads have prevailed. This is the best decision for our patients."

On a side note, the term gynecologist has its origins in the Greek language and means the study of women and reproduction.

OK, now make up all your own punch lines, they are many.
