Guthrie wildfire victim did not refuse evacuation order, family says

They say he helped someone else escape

Officials say he refused to evacuate.

But the family of a man killed in the Guthrie wildfire says that's NOT what happened.

Jackie Knox told FOX-25 News in Oklahoma City that his brother Johnnie gave a neighbor his truck, so THEY could evacuate.

"He probably went over to check on his dog and probably got overtaken by smoke," Knox said.

Johnnie Know and his dog were both found dead, side-by-side.

After that, he can only guess what happened.

Jackie said his brother was rough on the outside, but had a heart of gold.
