Grass fire causes havoc in Okmulgee County

We have updated information regarding a large grass fire in Okmulgee County on Monday.

Emergency Management officials say the blaze burned 900 acres.  It's believed sparks from welding started the mess.

One resident we spoke to says the firefighters did a great job of saving homes, but the fire did destroy a lot of hay.

The fire was put out Monday night.  Crews are keeping an eye out to make sure the fire doesn’t spark back up.

“Cows have to eat off that hay,” the resident said.  “A lot of farmers lost a lot of hay bales today.  That’s pretty discouraging.”
