Grand Lake swim beach to remain closed due to bacteria

GRDA will test the water again in a week

The GRDA first confirmed high levels of E.coli last week and closed down the Bernice swimming area.

Residents say the lake has been very slow since the signs went up warning lake-goers not to get in the water. Locals, though, have still been swimming in the water and no one has reported getting sick since the first few people did last week.

GRDA has collected samples each day around the beach. They confirmed no one who originally got sick from swimming in the lake tested positive for E.coli.

Authorities say whenever signs are posted it’s best to follow the rules.

After all the rain over the weekend the lake looks to be at the right level with fresh water and depending on the source of the bacteria the rain could’ve played a factor in clearing out some of the contamination.
