Gov. Fallin signs bill on abortion restrictions

The bill imposes strict regulations and requirements on abortion providers in Oklahoma

Gov. Fallin signed the bill Wednesday that requires abortion clinics to have a physician with admitting privileges at a nearby hospital present when an abortion is performed.

The bill further requires the Oklahoma Board of Health to establish standards regarding equipment and supplies that might be needed in a medical emergency.

The bill's author, state Rep. Randy Grau, says it will require abortion clinics to be equipped and staffed to deal with a medical emergency.

A spokeswoman for Planned Parenthood says the bill will severely restrict a woman's access to safe, legal abortion in the state and has other medically unnecessary requirements for abortion providers.
