'Gate to Hell' found by archaeologists in Turkey

Ancient Turks called it the "Gate to Hell", and now Italian archaeologists think they have found the underground cavern the Turks were referring to in southwestern Turkey.

Rossella Lorenzi wrote in an article for Discovery News that the cave was found in some ruins.

Also known by the name of Pluto's Gate, Lorenzi says it was "celebrated as the portal to the underworld in Greco-Roman mythology and tradition."

According to some historical writings, the opening to the cavern had lethal gases.
