Gas prices spike 16 cents

Monday morning price of regular gasoline jumped to $3.15

Gas prices tumbled for nearly three solid weeks and stayed below $3.00 through the Independence Day holiday weekend.

Monday morning, the price for a gallon of regular gasoline jumped to $3.15.

GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan says the violence in the Middle East is likely the culprit.

He says, "Oil prices have silently been tracking higher after tension in Egypt started to impact the market, driving oil prices higher.

Egypt controls the Suez Canal, which could keep international crude prices moving upward.
