Gas prices expected to be a tad cheaper this summer

For the second summer in a row, gas prices in the Tulsa area could be a little cheaper.

Tulsa World spoke with QuikTrip spokesperson Mike Thornbrugh who says area retailers have decided to bypass the use of a special low-polluting gasoline this summer.

This should save drivers around 10 cents a gallon.

The low-polluting gasoline is a part of a decade old EPA program.  It was designed for older cars, that produced more pollution.

Times have changed, and newer car engines have become cleaner.

QT will still switch to a cleaner-burning blend, but it's not as extreme as the version used by the program.
