The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that three organizations in Oklahoma were just awarded a total of $1.6 million to navigate grants related to the Affordable Care Act.
Cardon Healthcare Network was awarded $178,500.
Oklahoma Community Health Centers Inc. received $860,866 and Little Dixie Community Action Agency Inc. was awarded $580,733.
Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John Doak says it’s a waste of taxpayer dollars.
The dollar amounts were listed on a news release from HHS news release.
He says, “First, HHS wastes money and increases costs for insurers and consumers by duplicating regulation already performed by the Oklahoma Insurance Department.
Now, they continue this wastefulness by spending more on organizations that will be duplicating the work done by Oklahoma’s licensed agents and brokers.”
The agencies will hire "navigators" to help consumers enroll in insurance offered under the new law known as Obamacare.
