Feds: Rearview technology a must in 2018

Accidents cause average 210 deaths, 15,000 injuries a year

Starting in 2018, all new cars, SUV's and many light trucks will have to have to have rearview technology.

New rules from the Transportation Department will require that drivers have a field of vision measuring at least 10 by 20 feet directly behind the vehicle.

Backup accidents involving light vehicles cause an average of 210 deaths and 15,000 injuries a year.

Most of the victims are children and the elderly.
