TULSA, Okla. — Pickleball is being called one of the fastest-growing sports in the country. It’s gaining a lot of popularity in Green Country, so FOX23 went to Life Time South Tulsa to learn more about the sport.

You can use a racket or paddle to play Pickleball, which is played over a net. It’s like a larger-sized version of ping-pong but the ball is similar to a whiffle ball.

Randy Cottrell is the Pickleball Coordinator at Life Time South Tulsa. He says he’s noticed their newer program has gotten a lot of attention in recent months. They have around 200 players at last check.

“I tell most people that within 10 minutes I can get you playing pickleball. And so were you playing pickleball in 10 minutes, and the main rule I have is did you have fun.. for the social the physical aspect of it, and just the ease of learning to play,” said Cottrell.

Cottrell says this is a sport for all ages because it’s a social game that also has good health benefits.

He says it’s light cardio that is good for joint and bone health, and it’s just growing in popularity.
