Elementary school adapts water program for students

Bixby, Okla. — Students in Bixby Public Schools are ready for their second day of classes.

One of the district's top priorities is protecting students from the heat.

At Bixby North Elementary outdoor recess was canceled Tuesday because it got so hot.

Once school was dismissed, the district took another step to help students stay healthy.

Kids were allowed to play in the gym.

They call it “Operation Water Buffalo” to make water available to all of their students who are walking or riding a bus.

The district is also encouraging parents to send in refillable water bottles, especially for students involved in sports at the end of the day.
