Driver sentenced to 30 years in prison after drag racing death

Miguel Romero was just 18 years old when he caused a crash that took the life of another driver.

In May of 2021, Tulsa police said Romero was drag racing near Apache and Yale when he sped through a red light and crashed into another car.

28-year-old Audreaunna Williams was driving that other car and died in the crash. Police said her passenger was seriously hurt.

During his trial, the jury considered a lesser charge and convicted him of 1st Degree Manslaughter and DUI.

According to TPD, Romero was initially charged with 2nd Degree Murder and DUI/Causing Great Bodily Injury.

Friday, a judge sentenced Romero to 20 years in prison for the manslaughter charge and 10 additional years for DUI.

The sentences run consecutively for a total of 30 years in prison.
