Driver in critical condition after head-on crash

TULSA — Interstate 44 westbound was shut down for hours today after a head-on collision near highway 75.

Oklahoma Highway Troopers were called to the scene over the lunch hour.

Troopers say someone called 911 to report an SUV driving eastbound in the westbound lanes around noon.

The elderly driver was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

By the time troopers pulled up, the SUV had already crashed into a car.

The driver of the car was alert and taken to the hospital to get checked.

Troopers say the car looks mangled because firefighters had to use the jaws of life.

The interstate was closed for more than two hours.
