'Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over' campaign begins in Tulsa County

Saturation patrols by ten law enforcement agencies will target impaired drivers beginning Saturday and running through the Labor Day weekend, KRMG has learned.

More than 100 officers from Bixby, Broken Arrow, Collinsville, Jenks, Skiatook, Sand Springs, Sperry, and Tulsa, plus Tulsa Sheriff's deputies and Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers will participate.

They will deploy throughout urban, suburban and rural areas of the county as part of a national campaign called "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over," designed to curtail drunk and impaired driving during the Labor Day holiday.

Statistics indicate that more then 30 percent of fatality crashes on weekends involve drunk or drugged drivers.

The AAA tells KRMG a large number of travelers will be on the road over the holiday, and the campaign is aimed at helping keep them safe.

Officers will also conduct random checks of drinking establishments to check compliance with Oklahoma liquor laws.
